Park
YES, WITH LIMITS — Federal law does NOT set a maximum parking duration. What exists is a scale of fines by time band where parking is prohibited by a sign: up to 2 h, more than 2 h up to 4 h, more than 4 h up to 10 h (OAO annex 1, items 250, 255 and 256); beyond 10 h the offence leaves the amende d'ordre procedure and goes through the ordinary channel. Specific durations = cantonal or communal signage (LCR art. 3).
- There is no federal parking rule based on length (>6 m) or weight (>3.5 t): the full text of the OCR was checked and there is no weight or length threshold applicable to parcage. The real limits come from cantonal/communal signage. Absolute federal prohibitions relevant to a motorhome (OCR art. 19 al. 2): wherever stopping is not permitted; on main roads OUTSIDE built-up areas (letter b, which kills the classic 'sleeping on the verge of a main road'); on main roads inside built-up areas if two lanes are not left free for vehicles to pass; on cycle lanes; within 20 m of level crossings; on bridges; in front of entrances to other people's buildings or land. Al. 4: the vehicle must take up the minimum possible space without preventing others from leaving. Forest: the Loi sur les forets art. 15 al. 1 prohibits driving motor vehicles in the forest and on forest tracks except for forestry management tasks (the cantons may admit other categories, al. 2). ZGB art. 699 grants free access to forests and pastures, but it is access for people, not for vehicles.
